I’d like to congratulate our newest retiree, Sales and Service tech Brian Bittner. Brian retires with over 27 years of service, and his last day of work was this past Friday July 31st. Best of luck in retirement.
Last Thursday the Local conducted an orientation with the five newest full time hires in Sales and Service. They come with varying degrees of qualifications, and all are generally excited to be on board. Jason Gerace is one of the new hires. Jason was a telecommunications specialist and was laid off in 2003, he finds his way back after 23 years of absence. Amongst the others is a tech from Greenlight, two FTTH contractors and Network Switch tech Jim Bice’s son. All five are in Ohio this week at Verizon’s training facility. The Company has three more weeks of training planned.
The Local will be participating in the Annual City of Rochester Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 7th. We will be lining up on Meigs St., which we have for several years now. This year tickets will be available at no cost for the Red Wing game at 4pm and an all you can eat buffet out in the right field picnic area. We will have new t-shirts for those who march. Tickets will be reserved on a first come first serve basis, please call the hall to RSVP. We learned a lesson from the July 3rd Union day where tickets were free and half the people didn’t show up. If you fail to show up to the game, you will be charged $20 per ticket, which is the Union’s cost. We will not be subsidizing Seabreeze tickets this year, as the Rochester Labor movement is sponsoring this event and your Union has committed to a $2,500 sponsorship. T-shirts will be available in about two weeks at the Union Hall.
