Tape Release 9/10/26

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks on America and a solemn day of remembrance for the three thousand people or more who were killed that day including 21 CWA represented workers who started off their day just like any regular day.  Twelve CWA represented airline attendants, and nine telecom and broadcast engineers working in NYC, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon lost their lives.  The impact and suffering of workers and their families still exist as there are currently 136,000 responders and survivors enrolled in the World Trade Center Health program including splicers and repairman who worked for months following the attacks splicing and repairing cables to one of the largest central offices in America at the West Ave. downtown Manhattan location.  Some have died since from different forms of cancer due to exposure to the Toxic environment that they were working in..  The unselfish efforts of those workers and responders should never be forgotten as they worked around the clock to save people and put NYC and the Pentagon back together.  

Membership Meetings have been scheduled for Thursday, October 1st.  Two day meetings at 8:30am and 2pm will be held at the Union Hall and an evening meeting at the RIT Inn and Conference Center at 5:30pm.  On the agenda will be the nomination and election of your Local Officers for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  The Election Committee will be running the nominations.

The Company continues to work towards filling the twenty jobs negotiated and the elimination of the FTTH contractors.  So far, five additional techs have been hired and offers have been made to several others.  The Union has also been made aware that open enrollment for active employees will be December 7th thru the 18th, which is later than normal.  We will be getting information in advance for distribution to members as everyone will have to chose new health plans and other benefits.

Thank You to the members and their families who came out for the parade and Red Wing game.  It was a great day and nice to see everyone.
