An Update on CWA Local 1170 and AT&T Mobility

    General Workers Union Update

CWA is a workers union that meets the needs of its members. We represent a diverse group of workers, from police officers, to highway workers, to retail workers. Here are a few updates in the contracts we are negotiating right now. As a union, we would like to thank the employees who step up and volunteer their time and effort to represent their coworkers in negotiations.

CWA has been working hard on behalf of its members to negotiate contracts with a number of  employers. Our goal is always to maintain quality and affordable healthcare and fair wage increases. Our current negotiations include Police Officers in Waterloo, the Greece Gold Badge Club, 70 Rochester employees working as field techs, retail reps, and switch techs of AT&T Mobility, retail engineering field technicians, 30 employees in the Democrat and Chronicle mailroom, and highway employees in the town of Conesus, Bristol, and Groveland. We are working to renegotiate terms before contracts expire on December 31, 2017.

    AT&T Mobility Update

CWA has been fighting alongside 20,000 AT&T workers nationwide to renegotiate a contract that expired in February of 2017. The AT&T Mobility contract affects call center workers, retail workers, and engineers working for the organization across the country. CWA is working to secure job protections for call center employees, ensure future work for field techs, and fair working conditions for retail employees. After 55 meetings, there is still no framework for a new employment agreement. The Union continues to mobilize politicians and employees across the country to find a suitable agreement with AT&T.

“While AT&T is making record profits of over $1 billion a month, they refuse to negotiate a fair new contract with their workers, cutting 12,000 jobs in the U.S. and shipping many of them overseas,” said US Senator Bernie Sanders. “This is even while paying a corporate tax rate of only 8% between 2005-2015. That’s not acceptable. I stand with the CWA Union members and all workers across the United States.”
