Tape Release 5/20/21

Retiree Updates:

Retirees, you recently received information about the Frontier Communications Pension Plan.  It was comprehensive in nature and was mailed to all retirees.  Important takeaways:

Our retirees have never had a lump sum option and that option isn’t available to any CWA Local 1170 retiree.  There is no buyout of your pension available.

Restricted payouts for the death benefit only applies to employees who retired before December 31, 1996, the death benefit was eliminated for all retirees after that date.

From April 15th, 2020 to April 30th, 2021 we had surviving spouses who were limited to monthly payments on the death benefit, which was equivalent to 1 year’s final salary.
The monthly payment restriction is now modified to allow for a 50% distribution on the remaining amount of the death benefit.  Please call the Union Hall if you need any further clarification.

Also a reminder, the Annual Ray Kanis Picnic is being held on June 9th at Harris Whalen Park.  Please contact Doug Holman or Denny Stratton to RSVP.

Doug Holman can be reached at 233-3380 and Denny Stratton can be reached at 737-1926.

I’m also saddened to announce the passing of retiree Donald Sanford.  Don retired in 1996 with 32 years of service.  On behalf of the Union, I want to extend our condolences to Don’s family and friends.

This is your President John Pusloskie, thanking you for calling your Union tape.
