Tape Release 4/26/2021
Membership updates:
I’m saddened to announce the passing of Retiree Sandy Coumbe. Sandy retired as a cable splicer in 2007 with over 33 years of service. She was active in her Union as a Steward, contract work committee member, mobilizer and Executive Board member. She was a woman to be respected and not messed with. She uttered the following phrase when having an argument with one of her coworkers “If you don’t shut up, I’m going to kick your balls into the top of your head”. It exemplified her fearlessness, earned her two days off, but a lot of respect. The family held private services and no further arrangements will be announced. On behalf of the Union, I extend our condolences to Sandy’s family and friends.
The Local’s annual United Way workplace campaign is complete and has been another great success. In total the members’ pledged $95,930.00 and if you take into account the office staff and retirees, we did over $100,000.00. A big thank you to everyone who participated for your generosity and caring for those in this community that need a little help. The prizes and winners were randomly drawn and have been posted on the website. Winners will receive their gift cards in the mail. Again, thank you to Members Mark Semrau, Jarounda Gamble, Joe Rotolo, Demiah Smith, Tim Peffley, and Diane Holloway for your leadership with the campaign.
A reminder this Wednesday is the Annual Workers’ Memorial Day to remember those who were killed on the job. The Memorial service is being held this Wednesday at the Workers’ Rights Memorial in Highland Park on the corner of South Ave and Highland across from the St. John’s home, service will be held at 5pm. Anyone who can make it, the support would be greatly appreciated. It’s been a tough year for all workers, especially for those in the health care field.
This is your President John Pusloskie, thanking you for calling your Union tape. And We Are CWA STRONG.
