  • 2026 United Way of Greater Rochester Annual Labor Recognition Dinner

CWA Local 1170’s legacy was on full display at last night’s United Way of Greater Rochester Annual Labor Recognition Dinner. Two of the annual awards, The Rich Downey Heart of Gold and Robert J. Flavin Community Service Award are presented based on the Legacy of CWA Local 1170 member Richard Downey and legendary former President Robert J. Flavin. Their passion and community service have been memorialized in annual awards. Rich lead the workplace campaign for years at 1170 and his enthusiasm and passion have been passed down to our workplace campaign coordinators Fritz Amrhein, Bill Netchke, Diane Holloway, Jarounda Gamble, Demiah Smith and the dozens of volunteers who’ve helped over the years.

CWA 1170 is recognized frequently as a top workplace campaign in the Rochester Community. Bob Flavin’s passion for his community and his ability to galvanize participation from labor unions to meet the needs of the community have been memorialized as well. Bob was truly supportive of the non profit cancer action as it touched his family with the passing of his son Danny at a young age from cancer.
Our current President John Pusloskie is also a leader in the Labor movement’s participation with the United Way serving on the Executive Board for fourteen years and his opening remarks every year hit home to encourage participation and rally union support to assist the most vulnerable in our community.
