The members above will be getting educate on the Employee Free Choice Act and Healthcare strategies for the future.  The Union’s goal is to strengthen the middle class.  This week, the local will be kicking off its campaign to get every member to sign a card in support of the Employee Free Choice Act. Please support this campaign.  A stronger Union movement means a stronger middle class and a stronger country. 

CWA’s goal along with the AFL-CIO is to get 1 million cards signed.

The people in Washington DC who represent us need to focus on the middle class.  Our voices need to be heard and this campaign is a move in that direction.

The Employee Free Choice Act focuses on 3 things:

1. 1)If a majority of employees sign a Union card the employer must recognize the Union.  This does not eliminate the secret ballot election if the employers want it.
   

2. 2)Mediation and binding arbitration for the first contract.
   

3) Stiffer penalties for employers who break the law during organizing drives
