Tape Release Friday, November 7, 2014
Veterans Day Message - I would like to take a minute to thank all the members of our US Armed Forces and their families for their sacrifices on behalf of our great country. Included in that, I would like to thank all of our retirees and active members who have served and still are serving in the Military Reserves. We thank your for your continued commitment, dedication, and sacrifice for our country.
Everyone knows a family member or friend who has served and for me personally I would like to thank my Grandfather who participated in the Normandy Invasion and Battle of the Bulge in World War II, my Uncles David, Mike, and Ron who Served in Vietnam, and and my Father who served in the United States Air Force. Sometimes I think we forget and take for granted what true service and sacrifice is. Please take a moment to thank a Veteran on Tuesday.
Our CWA and IBEW Brothers and Sisters from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine continue to maintain their solidarity as they enter the third week of a strike at FairPoint Communications. Fairpoint imposed a contract freezing their pension, eliminating retiree health insurance, major changes for active’s health insurance as well as outsourcing and contracting their work without limitations. Donations have been requested to help these striking workers. I will be asking the Executive Board for approval today to authorize a two thousand dollar donation from our Membership Assistance Fund. More help may be needed as the strike lengthens. It is our time to help our brothers and sisters. We must not forget that Frontier imposed a contract on us in 1996 and we were able to get through it with the support of other CWA Locals across district one who sent us financial assistance every month throughout our 14 month labor struggle.
Frontier Retiree Open Enrollment ends November 26th. The annual packages are hitting your homes this week. New plans have been added for Medicare eligible retirees. I would recommend that you attend one of the four meetings next Friday at W. Henrietta Rd. to get information and questions answered. The meetings are scheduled for 8am, 10am, 1pm and 3pm. Representatives from Frontier and the insurance companies will be there to assist you.
A postcard is being mailed to every member with the details of a special membership meeting on November 20th where your election committee will certify the results for election of your Local Officers.
This is your President John Pusloskie thanking you for calling your Union tape the place where we fight for the respect you deserve.
