Tape Release 9/21/12 -
The National CWA announced on Wednesday of this week that they reached a tentative agreement with Verizon, one of the largest corporations in the world. 35,000 CWA Members went on a two week strike last August, along with constant mobilization protesting against massive company concessions. They reached a settlement that includes job security, maintains their pension, wage increases, and bargaining unit work protections. Congratulations to them, this is a significant win for the labor movement in our industry and country.
Sales and Service Techs - Yesterday I spoke with Bob Smith in regard to the expanded 9:30 - 6pm shift and reached an agreement that the expansion of the shift will not take place until the end of the current work schedule, which is October 13th. For those who have already made the necessary changes, you can begin your new shift either at 7:30 or 9:30am effective Monday.
Next week the Union has 3 scheduled meetings with the Company. On Tuesday we're meeting in regard to the Union's request to bargain trucks by performance. Thursday we're meeting as part of our monthly labor/management meeting structured with the assistance of federal mediators, as well as meeting on the 9:30 - 6pm shift.
Tomorrow the Rochester Labor Council has organized a labor walk for, fighter for the middle class candidate, Louise Slaughter. Meeting time is at 9am at 776 Stone Road in Greece. Several members have already signed up. Louise sent several letters in support of the workers at Verizon to their CEO to help them in their negotiations. We need to do all we can to help her get reelected and fight back the negative misleading ads about her.
