What's New at Local 1170
Tape Release Friday, July 18, 2014
Thanks to all the members who are attending the picnic at Darien Lake tomorrow. We sold 365 tickets, which is the biggest turnout that we’ve had in a while for an event. It looks like were going to have a great day.
A major announcement for the membership: CWA District 1 has submitted a petition to the Chairman of the PSC Audrey Zibelman asking the PSC to do the following in regards to telecommunications:
· Review the impact of two decades of deregulation
· Examine the status of service quality
· Examine infrastructure investment
· Broadband buildout
· Availability of competitive choice
· Examine whether Verizon is misallocating cost between its subsidiaries in order
to exaggerate its landline losses.
75 elected officials signed the petition including those locally
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren
State Senator Ted O’Brien
State Assembly Harry Bronson
The Petition was also supported by
The Rochester Building Trades
The Rochester Labor Council
Coalition of Black Trade Unionist
The Rochester Police Locust Club as well as the New York State Retired Police Officers Association.
We thank all those who supported it and will update you soon in regard to meetings to take place.
This is a major development as service quality and infrastructure investment continues to decline.
A mailing went out to all the members and retirees asking for support for our annual Cash Raffle for the Flavin Scholarship Fund. The retirees are way out in front of the active members in support of the fund. For the first time, we will offer up to two scholarships to the Grandchildren of Retirees. August 1st is the deadline to get the scholarship applications in. Golfers also need to start getting their money in for the tournament on Saturday, August 9th. We still have spots available and encourage you to invite family and friends to join us in a great time.
This is your President John Pusloskie thanking you for calling your Union Tape, the place where we fight for the respect you deserve.
Frontier and the Communications Workers of America have reached an agreement benefitting 2500 members of CWA Local 1298. The Communications Workers of America District One will be supporting the Frontier acquistion of AT&T's Connecticult wireline business.
