This message is to advise you that Monday, September 6th is a Union Activity Day for every member including those in West Virginia who are expected to return home this Saturday.

Every member should understand what this means, especially after the discussion that were held last year.  Monday is the Labor Day Parade.  Your Union is marching as it does every year.  We’re meeting at 10am on Meigs St nearer to park Ave.

Please give a few hours of your time and join us in this celebration.  For members who march and their families, discount tickets to Sea Breeze will be available at our meeting location.  Please call the Union Hall to advise us if you’ll be marching.

I cannot stress enough the importance of supporting your Union and the Labor Movement in this community, especially with bargaining coming up and the 14-week strike that the Motts workers have endured to date.  I’m very proud of this membership for your generosity in supporting them.  They are very thankful for your donations.

The Local is also working very hard for the laid off members and those in the jobs bank who are interested in transferring to West Virginia.  Discussions with the company are moving things in the right direction.

This is your President John Pusloskie thanking you for calling your Union tape, the place where we are Union and Proud of it.

Attention all Frontier Members – The Company has issued each employee 100 shares of stock.  To claim the shares of stock, you have to register them.  The Company has sent an email to everyone’s work email account giving you information and directions on how to register.  Information has also been posted on the Link.  For those employees with no access to computers, please contact your supervisor and make arrangements for them to provide you time and access to register for the 100 shares.

We still have openings for the bus trip on October 2nd to Washington, D.C.  This will be a once in a lifetime event to participate in.  We are rallying to get 10,000 CWA members from across the nation to participate with union members and progressive groups from across the country in a one-nation rally.  This rally will be the largest held in this country in decades.  We will be leaving on a bus Friday night, attending the rally, and returning home immediately afterwards.  Please call the Hall to sign up.

On October 2nd CWA members from across the nation will be participating in a historic march in Washington, DC in an effort to change the course for working and middle class families.  A massive rally that will rival the civil rights rallies in the 60’s is being organized.  Your Local is going to be part of this historic event.  To reserve a spot on this bus trip, please contact Marge or Angela at the Union Hall.  The bus will be leaving Friday evening and returning right after the rally on Saturday.  Seats on the bus are limited and will be offered on a first come first serve basis.  This will be a once in a lifetime experience.  Please let us know as soon as possible.

Reminders –

Clambake tickets are on sale.  This is truly a great bargain, as tickets are $30 for members, spouses, and retirees.  Non-members are $45.  All you can eat clams and shrimp, and much more.  Please call the Hall to get a ticket.

The Labor Day Parade is Monday, September 6th.  Your Union is marching.  Motts strikers will lead the parade.  Please join us on our day of recognition.  Discount tickets will be available to Sea Breeze for those who march.

On Saturday, the annual Tom Luciano Memorial Golf Tournament was held at Victor Hills Golf Course.  I want to thank the volunteers who were responsible for the registration, the ladies who worked the beer carts, and Andy Cimino & Rich Sarkis for their efforts in securing the door prizes.  One hundred golfers participated and everyone had a good time.  Most important we raised several thousand dollars for the Flavin Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The scholarship winners will be announced later this week.  The winners of the Flavin Scholarship Raffle were drawn Saturday and the winners were:

1st Prize – Greg Whitehair  $700 – Greg is a 17 yr old worker at the golf course

2nd Prize – Heather Harris  $400 – Clerk W. Henrietta Rd

3rd Prize – 8 yr old Jack Pusloskie  $100

The bargaining surveys are all in with more than 300 returned, the best response we’ve ever had.  We will be setting up our committees for negotiations soon and contacting those who’ve signed up.

Tuesday is a black day and Thursday is a union apparel day.
